Privacy Policy
How MetrosPress collects, uses and protects personal information under South Africa's POPIA.
Effective date: 20 July 2026
MetrosPress ("we", "us", "our") operates the newsroom and press-release platform at metrospress.co.za. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA") of the Republic of South Africa.
1. Information we collect
Account data: name, company, position, email, phone number, industry and role selected at sign-up.
Content you submit: press releases, images, bios, client profiles, key facts and comments.
Usage data: pages viewed, articles read, device type, approximate location and referring source.
Communications: support messages, package requests and email correspondence.
2. How we use your information
To create and manage your account and verify approval eligibility.
To publish approved content to the public newsroom.
To send transactional emails (approval, invoices, package requests, alerts).
To measure engagement, generate analytics and improve the platform.
To send editorial or marketing emails via our Communications tool (only where permitted).
3. Lawful basis
We process personal information on the basis of your consent, performance of a contract with you, our legitimate interests as a newsroom, and compliance with legal obligations.
4. Sharing of information
We do not sell personal information. We share limited data with trusted processors that help us run the platform (hosting, email delivery, analytics). Published press releases, bios and client profiles are, by nature, public.
5. International transfers
Some of our processors are located outside South Africa. Where this is the case we ensure an adequate level of protection through contractual safeguards.
6. Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal and accounting requirements.
7. Your rights
Under POPIA you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information; object to processing; and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
8. Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and analytics cookies to understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
9. Security
We apply industry-standard technical and organisational measures — encrypted transport, role-based access, row-level database security and regular reviews — to protect personal information.
