‘Vur Vai!’ lineup at the 11th Annual Mzansi Fela Festival 2018
This year’s instalment of the festival will kick off early with BET award-winning, Zulu rooted star Sjava sharing the stage with ‘N’gud’ hitmaker Kwesta. Sjava held our country’s flag high when he walked away with “Viewers’ Choice Best International Act” award at the BETs in June this year. Kwesta’s smash hit “Spirit” was without a doubt the biggest Hip-Hop song of 2017, now he is back with a new one titled ‘Vur Vai!’
Ringo Madlogozi and Thandiswa Mazwai are both no strangers to the popular festive season festival which has been around since 2007. Ringo’s last appearance was in the 2015 edition, while Mazwai returns by popular demand from her last year’s stint where she set a sold-out house ablaze. Ringo is paired with Vusi Nova, who recently released a tribute single ‘As’phelelanga,’ which pays homage to many musicians and artists who have had their final curtain call.
For the first at the State Theatre, Gospel star Dr Tumi will deliver hope and restoration to audiences as we will be approaching Christmas in December. The festival offers only two nights of praise and worship with the sensational singer. Seats are limited to 1300 per night, which means only 2600 fans will be lucky to see him perform LIVE. Make sure to save both dates, 13 and 14 December!
Lebo Sekgobela is another gospel act featured in the line-up. The Lion of Judah hitmaker heads to this installation with healing sounds from her new double album, Umusa. The 20-track album is being toured across the country and Its tracks such as ‘Mangeloi’, ‘Ho Bokwe’ and ‘Lentswe La Hao’ are getting “thee” reception from many South Africans.
Since its inception, Mzansi Fela festival has become one of the most anticipated festivals of the year in the Tshwane Metropolitan, Gauteng and the country at large. The festival presents the most exciting music, theatre, dance, comedy and poetry in South Africa. An occasion that started as a five-day event, has now developed to attract more than 10 000 people annually.
