

The Second StokvelEx Bokone Bophirima in partnership with the North West Department of Finance, Economy & Enterprise Development is set to create an effective thriving Stokvel community
The annual StokvelEx Bokone Bophirima, now among the largest Stokvel platforms in the country with service providers from various corporate and public institutions is set to take place at the Rustenburg Showgrounds from 4-5th March 2016. In association with the North West Department of Finance, Economy & Enterprise Development the second instalment of the Stokvel exhibition seeks to foster and formalise relationships between various stokvel clubs, cooperatives and service providers.
The two day exhibition is described as “the meeting point for stokvel organisations, financial service, wholesalers, cooperatives, banking & investment institutions, funeral undertakers and other related companies to drive growth, investment and development within the South African stokvel landscape.” Divided into two sections – the public hall & workshop areas (which will include speakers who are driving behavioural change, in an effort to improve and fast track economic development with the Stokvel market) – the expo will provide innovative solutions tailored to the size and scope of operation of all participating stokvel groups, cooperatives, individuals and associations through an open exhibition of various products and brands.
It is proven that most communities are currently relying on stokvels to respond to the challenges of poverty and income insecurity as members are able to meet their basic needs. Members are now adopting a change from people contributing and saving money to modest investment and through this they are able to have access to credit and mini loans.
Attendees at the two day expo will know how to:

StokvelEx Bokone Bophirima has changed how stokvels access information and by attending the expo stokvels can leverage on the best products, practice and services. The expo will offer in-depth discussion on investment trends, networking opportunities and the best practices on how to create revenue generated Stokvel.
“The Department through this exhibition intends to encourage members of stokvels to formalise their operations and register for financial cooperatives to benefit members and they will be in position to enter into partnerships with big companies to prosper to participate in the mainstream economy”, said MEC Wendy Nelson. The second Stokvel expo will focus on ways of increasing and promoting economic viability in under-served markets through imparting cutting edge knowledge. This platform is designed to be informative and meaningful for stokvels when it comes to economic opportunities and the strategies that they can use in offering services to their own local communities,” said Nelson.
The entrance is free and this includes access to the workshops which will carry conversations such as how Stokvels could diversify their organizations, seek investment opportunities and how Stokvels could be set up as a cooperatives.
