South African beauty brand, Wild Olive African Artisan Apothecary & Artistic Perfumery House collaborates with LVMH brand, Edun
The Wild Olive African Artisan Apothecary & Artistic Perfumery House based at 29 Pepper Street in the CBD of Cape Town, collaborates with the New York based brand Edun, who operate as a part of the LVMH group.
Wild Olive Artisans was first approached for a candle collaboration in mid 2015 and after only a few months of developing and attuning the fragrance and design, the candles were ready to be shipped overseas to Edun. The candle fragrance pays homage to the South African Cederberg area, with focus on the endangered Clanwilliam cedar tree. Two staple black and white patterned candles were created at the Wild Olive Artisans manufacture at 29 Pepper Street, using the Edun 2016 collection as inspiration for the design. The project marks an exciting position for Wild Olive Artisans, who have succeeded to develop a competitive product for the largest luxury group in the world.
Wild Olive prides itself on demonstrating the possibilities of the African continent and the value of its human resource. Their focus lies in creating the necessary skills in order to compete at a global level, manufacturing every single product in house, using the best materials and technologies currently available and carefully managing economies of scale: with no compromise on quality or service. Their collaboration with Edun is a testament to this. “We want to prove to the world that Africa can compete at a global level and to the highest standards…Africa doesn’t need charity, it needs to become credible as a manufacturing force. For this, we are prepared to work hard”, says Marioara de la Tara, Creative Director of Wild Olive Artisans. The majority of the Wild Olive artisans hail from the Transkei and they are extremely proud and grateful to have been able to work on such an exciting project.
