MeloB Live at Lahiwes in partnership with ConcertSA
The Unlearn Agency in partnership with Concerts SA presents Melo B Jones live at Lahliwes on Sunday 15th May 2016. The aim of this initiative is to develop new audiences and appreciation for live music in areas located outside central Johannesburg as well as showcase young fresh South African talent on new platforms throughout Gauteng.
Melo B Jones is a 20 something year old singer/songwriter living and creating music in the vibrant city of Johannesburg. The origins of the name are stemmed from the personal journey that she feels encapsulates everything her sound stands for. “Melo” is derived from her first name, Boitumelo. It echoes the mellow tones and melodies found in her sound; the feeling her music brings. “B” is her personal sign off. Her initial. Lastly, by definition, “Jones” is a fixation with something or someone. An addiction. Her music aspires to represent that wholly, from an inspired and fresh angle – especially in a South African context.
Mixing Soul, Jazz, Neo Soul, and R&B, her music is an uncategorised blend of her childhood musical influences, her life and all that she loves in one. Having performed alongside and collaborated with acts such as electro-house collective, Crazy White Boy (with the hit single “Show Me The Way” from Electro Candi II) and Cape Town based group, Ill Skillz, her sound expands from House music, to R&B to Hip Hop. She has performed both as a main act, as well as a featuring artist from Jack Daniels Boomtown at the Vodacom Durban July in 2015 to Vilakazi Street NYE Festival in December 2015.
Having graced intimate stages such as The Orbit (Braamfontein) and Katzy’s Live (Rosebank) to more robust stages such as the Cape Town Jazz Festival (doing accompanying vocals for Ill Skillz in 2012), she knows how to appeal to different crowds and can fit her sound into various settings.
We live in an ever-evolving world and with that music has evolved too, this specific performance is a showcase of soul, jazz and neo soul and how the sound has progressed over the years but is still strongly inspired by those that came before them.
When: Sunday 15th December 2015 Time: 2:00pm Where: Lahliwes Address: 2302 Tsholofelo Street, Ext 4, Khutsong, Carletonville.
Concerts SA and Weheartbeat Live proudly bring this event to you, in association with the Merafong Jazz Forum.
