Find free WiFi in Tshwane with an app for Android
Project Isizwe has announced their app to help citizens in the Tshwane area find free WiFi hotspots in the city and is now available for Android devices. It was previously only available for IOS devices but is now also available for Android users.
The app also shows the location of other points of interest such as clinics, libraries and sporting venues.
Zahir Khan, COO of Project Isizwe, says the fact that smart phones are becoming more affordable makes it possible for the youth of the city to make use of the free WiFi offered by Project Isizwe.
“International research has found that the cost of data usually inhibits the access of the youth to information available on the Internet,” says Khan. “The use of apps on smart phones has changed lives for young people all over the world, helping their cultural development as well as preventing social isolation. This also creates another avenue to share important information with young people.”
The organisation believes that every South African citizen has a right to access high quality, affordable Internet and they have started making this a reality for people in Tshwane.
Project Isizwe has also announced that they will be launching a free WiFi project in the Eastern Cape, which will go live on 17 June.
ABOUT PROJECT ISIZWE
Project Isizwe is bringing Free WiFi to South Africa and connecting people for education, economic development and social inclusion. It is a non-profit organisation which aims to bring the internet to people across South Africa by facilitating the roll-out of Free Wifi for public spaces in low-income communities. The core focus of Project Isizwe is to harness the power of the internet and use it as a catalyst for change. Isizwe helps governments plan, rollout and maintain Free Wifi networks, helping to trigger a ‘multiplier effect’ on the economy and creating employment. The non-profit structure allows the project to pool band-width, source local installers and deal with government without the traditional excessive mark-ups.
