THE CITY OF TSHWANE OBSERVES MANDELA DAY BY SERVING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY OF PHOMOLONG IN MAMELODI
The community of Tshwane gathered at Phomolong section in Mamelodi to honour Mandela Day with a hive of activities organized by the City of Tshwane and led by the Executive Mayor, Cllr Kgosientso Ramokgopa. The day of national service drew employees from the City, community activists and celebrities who shared motivational talks, planted food garden, painted schools and donated food parcels to the those who are less privileged.
The City of Tshwane partnered with the local counsellor to offer a variety of services including testing of diabetes & HIV, sorting out electricity issues and conducting repairs and maintenance for areas in dire need within the Phomolong vicinity.
“Stepping up to volunteer, and be an agent of change in the community is a great feeling to honour Tata Madiba,” said Executive Mayor, Cllr Kgosientso Ramokgopa. Madiba was committed to his people and through such initiatives we want to ensure that our people live in better living conditions. We also encourage companies to redouble their efforts in partnering with us in ensuring better service delivery to the community of Tshwane.”
The City of Tshwane Mandela Day drew more than 2000 volunteers from Tshwane who actively participated and volunteered at the Mamelodi Old Age by planting a vegetable garden, refreshed a kid’s day care and early development center with fresh paint and offered served soup to toddlers and pre-scholars. The day culminated at Fundzo Ndi Tshedza Primary with activities that included motivational talks, painting of the school assembly, repairing the kitchen unit and school lights.
