A Big Orange BUZZ for the City of Joburg
A big orange BUZZ will drive around Johannesburg with loud music, cool vibes, young students and entrepreneurs to promote its entrepreneurship element at several locations in the streets of Johannesburg.
This BUZZ is an initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands enabling meet and greets to happen with children of all ages, students and young entrepreneurs at different locations around the City. This aims to bring them into contact with young successful South African entrepreneurs and to show them what possibilities are available for them in the future, as well as inspire them to consider being entrepreneurs as well.
Education and entrepreneurship are important pillars of House of the Future (the conference being hosted at the Turbine Hall by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands). For more info on House of the Future www.houseofthefuture.co.za
The BUZZ will start its journey on Friday 13 November, along with the Ambassador Marisa Gerards, students of #COCREATEMYCITY and a selection of entrepreneurs who will drive with the BUZZ to Diepsloot to attend the opening of the JOZI Business Hub.
The hub, which will be opened by representatives from Absa, Experian SA, Rhiza Babuyile and the Dutch Embassy, aims to assist unemployed youth to find employment through Rhiza Babuyile’s network of sponsors. They will also support those who embrace their entrepreneurial spirit by setting up their own small businesses.
Free goodies, picture-twitter-competitions, the transportation of VIPs and the stops at interesting neighbourhoods, hope to attract a young and vibrant audience.
Young entrepreneurs from the JOZI Business Hub will design the clothes for the Fashion Show that will take place during the Trade Reception of House of the Future on Tuesday 17 November.
On Saturday 14 November, the first stop that the BUZZ makes is the Royal Haskoning DHV Saturday School, who will invite other schools to join a session on entrepreneurship. In the afternoon, the BUZZ will head off to Braamfontein, to promote House of the Future by means of a picture-twitter-competition. (startsaup).
On Sunday 15 November, the Ambassador Marisa Gerards will take the BUZZ to visit the Hook-up Dinner Festival (during Entrepreneurship Week) at Constitution Hill. She will speak to young entrepreneurs and invite them to House of the Future. In the afternoon the BUZZ will drive around Maboneng together with the students of #COCREATEMYCITY, for another picture-twitter-competition.
On Tuesday 17 November the BUZZ will pick up the designers of JOZI Business Hub and their models from Soweto who will take part in the Fashion Show.
#COCREATEMYCITY 9 -17 November, is a platform where students from South Africa and the Netherlands come together to share knowledge, talents, skills and ideas. They support and inspire each other to work jointly to produce exciting ideas and solutions for local challenges of the City of Joburg during House of the Future raising the topic how we can #COcreateSA?
The city of Joburg has identified five challenges from the sectors of water, agriculture, transport and logistics, health and energy. Multidisciplinary student groups from UJ, Wits, VU University Amsterdam and University of Technology Delft will work together to draft solutions for those challenges. Students are mentored by a select group of experts of the different sectors. The Dutch students will be in South Africa for 2 weeks.
The student teams will present their findings to the Mayor of Johannesburg Mr Mpho Parks Tau and the Dutch Prime Minister Rutte during House of the Future (16 – 20 November 2015).
